Big ben stencil

1. Explain how you changed your photo in the lab to create a stencil. We went on photoshop to change the threshold of the picture. The pictures contrast turned to black and white to create positive and negative space.

2. When creating the collage background explain your choices of colors, materials (magazine paper, books pages, etc), and placement. How does it relate to your topic? If no relation discuss general idea. I took a collage of magazine paper and I used pictures that related to old time fashion, Europe, or city like things because that is what London is known for. I used the color purple because it is a royal color and England is considered a royal country because of the kings and queens. The composition of all the colors looked pretty well.

3. Discuss the way positive and negative space was used to create your stencil. I took the details of the clock on my stencil and turned that into negative space. I wanted to keep my collage a background so I did.

4. When using the xacto knife, explain the safety procedures, how to use the knife and any challenges you had to overcome while cutting. When using the xacto knife, you need to cut away from your body. It was frusterating after a while to cut the whole stencil out because you had to make sure you didn't accidentally cut something you didn't want to cut.

5. How was your experience with the spray paint? Discuss how color choice is important, placement of stencil, and any other concepts you noticed while creating this. Spray painting was fun. I used a just regular black with a light purple around it to make it stand out. The background and the stencil balance well because of the paint I used. If I used a brighter color the background wouldn't stand out as much.
