Ink print

1.     Describe the overall composition of your artwork (balance, unity, rhythm and movement).
I think my overall balance was pretty good. I had an even amount of ink and background. The movement was pretty good except my lines got messed up a little bit. The elephant blended with the tree but overall it was pretty good.

2.     How did you add texture and contrast to your print? Is this important? Why?
I added texture by putting lines on the elephants body to make it look like its skin. I also added texture in the tree to show the trunk so it didn't look like a line. The elephants trunk had lines in it to show its texture too. Texture is important because it makes the effect of the elephant skin. It helped make the picture seem more realistic and not flat.
3.     Explain how you used positive and negative space to show your image.
I used postive and negative space by making the sky the paper color and the actual elephant and tree the ink. This will help define my animal and make it have an equal amount of ink and paper. If I did it the other way around, it would look boring and wouldn't be as defined.
4.     Describe the craftsmanship of your print. (How good the project is technically crafted)
The craftsmanship was okay overall. Some of the lines got uneven. The ink at one point would go over a spot I did not want to have ink. The ink smudged a bit. I think that the lines should have been deeper in order to avoid these problems.

5.     Were you able to achieve depth by showing a foreground, middle ground and back- ground? Explain.
I was able to show a foreground and background and a little bit of the middle ground. The paper at the top is obviously my background. The middle ground is supposed to be where the tree branch is but its kind of hard to see with all the ink. My foreground is obviously at the bottom wheret the elephants body ends.

6.     Explain your experience with Printmaking. What were the obstacles and advantages?
I think printmaking was fun overall. The biggest obstacles would be carving the lines in the molding and rubbing the ink on. It was challenging to roll the ink on because I knew I only had a few chances to do it right so I couldn't mess up.It was also bad if you accidentally cut somewhere you didn't want to be cut because you can't fix it. Advantages were that you could add lines whenever you need to in case the ink messed up somewhere.

Print Sketch

1. Why is texture so important to have in your sketches?
Texture is so importnat to have in your sketches because it makes the picture look real. Without texture, it could look really flat and people won't be able to tell what it is sometimes. You want to make sure the picture pops out at people to make it look like its really there, not on a paper.

2. Why is it neccessary for you to have several references of each animal and each background? Explain.
It is neccessary to have several refrences of each animal and each background because you can use different things from each picture. If you took just one animal and one background, it could look boring. But if you took, for example, a tree from one background but the sky from another than it looks more like you created it yourself and more detailed.

3. When you look at your sketches are you able to see which sketch is the strongest and will make the best print? How do you know this?
Yes, when I look at my sketches I am able to see which sketch is the strongest. I can tell depending on the amount of detail each picture has. One of my pictures I know will not make as good as a background as the one above. This is because it takes place under the water and there is not a lot of detail in my background so it would not show up as well as a print, it would just be boring.

Chalk Mural

1.  Explain your experience working on a team and executing your ideas for the mural.
I thought the experience of working with a team was pretty fun and cool. It was cool to hear everybodys creative ideas about what to do and don't do. We were able to use each of our ideas and mix them together to make a mural.

2. Explain the importance of collaboration when working on a team.
Collaboration is important when working with a team because  you need to make sure everybody agrees with everything. You need to make sure peoples ideas are mentioned and that if you disagree on something that you let others know. Collaboration makes what you are working on agreeable and full of different ideas.
3.  How successful was this project? Explain how and why.
I think our project was pretty successful. Although it took us a long time do complete, we were able to get it done. Along the way we had obstacles or ideas that would get in the way but we were able to work through them. I think that our mural came out really good thanks to everyone in the group.
4. Explain how you feel about creating artwork that others can interact with. Ex. Invoving the whole school?
I think creating artwork that everyone can interact with is really cool. Instead of having  to work really hard on a piece of art that you just hang on the wall and look at, you can work hard so that others can interact with your art. I think that it is a good way to use your artwork and it doesn't really go to "waste". I think the students at school think it is a cool thing to be able to interact with artwork as well.
